Have Sympathy. Help A Parent Out.

meme

I’ve seen this meme a couple of times at this point and I still chuckle. The truth can be really funny. Then I consider why it’s true that boys are so freaked out by the subject of menstruation and shake my head. It’s not their fault. How can they be expected to not be embarrassed by the subject? They don’t experience it and from my perspective a good portion of the people who do deal with it don’t know how to address it with their daughters. Never mind their sons.

Which brings me to this question: How should we deal with it?  What should a parent say the moment their daughters get their periods? What should they not say?

Were you given advice that didn’t scar you for life? Were you told you were now a woman at the age of 12?

Help a parent out by contacting me at crpatullo@yahoo.com. Tell me your first period story and it might just be posted on one of the pages above.
